I arrived early Wednesday morning to work at the BR Dream Center-Winbourne and was sitting in my car and just took this picture and had a thought……the church looks ready to roll, ready to serve. Well little did I know what the next few days would bring. So far it had been non stop action getting ready to serve a few nursing home residents and the staff that cares for them. It is 11:00pm Saturday and we just stopped. I am now in my office tracking the storms progress and will be spending the night here helping out with needs. I love that I get to do this, I love that my wife allows me to do this. Thanks babe…any how, Thank for helping out and praying for the guest. They have been moved from the only place they may know. It must be hard. The staff of these retirement homes are great. We unloaded 3 buses, a u haul truck(full) a penski truck(full) and several cars and when we had it unloaded they had it set up, It was amazing to see in action. GREAT STUFF. PEACE OUT……more to come.
Here it goes:
I hope you aren’t planning to have anymore?!?
- You mean, I just figured out what I’m really, really good at, and you’re telling me to stop doing it?
- Talk to God about it… it’s up to Him.
- OK, I won’t plan my next one. Surprises can be fun!
- Yup we are going to keep going till we get an ugly one.
How can you afford having so many?
- Lifestyles are expensive not kids.
- We’re not on welfare, in huge amounts of debt, and no, my wife is not a doctor or lawyer. We just budget well.
- I figure you spend what you make, you may as well spend it on more.
- ” You don’t know my financial backer!” (Our God, of course)
- I’m still not sure how we do it…but it works!
Haven’t you heard of birth control?
- Yes, and I thank God it doesn’t always work!
- Yes, I’ve heard of it, I hope you are using it!
- Yes, that’s great stuff for people with ugly kids!
- Oh yes, we do know what birth control is; it’s for people who don’t want children.
Do you get any time for yourselves?
- Obviously we get a little time to ourselves, or we wouldn’t have 5 kids.

Thursday Morning Reggie Wheller, Ron Lally and Myself brought one of our clients to view Angola for what, with out serious help, will be our guys next home. He is not a bad guy, just lost. He needs to see this, feel it, taste it. I have tasted the bitter taste of being locked up, being locked down, But when you taste it at Angola it taste different. As always with this life I received far more than out guy did. I want to introduce a man by the name of Sivoris Sutton. He is from the ATL, He has been at Angola for 17 years, He is the prisons program manager for the radio station and a great guy, I love hearing him speak, I love watching him teach.
Sivoris, AKA D.J. “Shaq” will most likely spend the rest of his life in Angola. Please be in prayer that God would open a door for his release. He is serving a 99 year sentence for accessory to murder. He was with a guy who killed someone. He did not pull the trigger, he did not even have a gun, but he made a choice to befriend a bad dude. He pays for that choice every day. Listening to him talk about his children at home, you can feel the love this guy has for his children. What strikes me in all of this, every prisoner I get the chance to talk to, every one of them has the same thought I did: I was the life of the party, I was the MAN, but when you get locked up, WHO comes to see you, WHO………..Thats right, NO ONE. in 17 yrs at Angola only his mom and children have came to see him. “Shaq” speaks to school, churches and pretty much anyone who will listen about the dangers of drugs and money and street life. If you ever get the chance to see him, thank him, hug him, love him, pray for him. He is the hands and feet of Christ in a setting most of us would die in. There is never a day that goes by that I don’t regret making bad choices, but we often talk about where would we be with out those choices. Shaq is as free as me, He gets to do things everyday I have to wait to do, He gets to love inmates! It is ironic, I spent along time trying to get out of prison, out of bandage….now I spend my whole life trying to get back in one more time. I would rather be in a prison or talking with inmates listening to their story, than in any “church” in the world. How great is our God.

I can not pass a pair of sunglasses and not put them on and take a picture. Not sure what “weird” category that fall into but it’s simply the truth! Here are a few pair I found this week while roaming the desk of HPC staff people!
so, as you can see we have a wide array of sunglass wearers at the church. Pretty cool. I personally don’t wear sunglasses that much, primarily because the cheap ones don’t really help and I am much to forgetful to pay for a good pair. I would loose them in a week or less.

Tuesday evening started what I like to call “controlled pandemonium”. The Baton Rouge Dream Center Winbourne Campus had it’s VBS. It was crazy, down right fun… The kids loved it, Crazzzy Greg loved it. All the parents loved it, Jesus loved it. These kids got the all out treatment from some great volunteers and staff that only HPC can put together. The complete dream center was opened up to these younger kids that do not normally get to hang out, The older kids get to hang out at the dream center but this week the young ones ruled. Check out a couple shots from the go go gadget phone:
The kids loved the sponge game: a great way to cool off
Sista Bling was a hit with the kids
A storm tore up the tent…sorry Byrd!
JP and JG what a pair!!!

This past weekend was a great weekend, We started off the weekend early Saturday morning with the Kingdom Builders breakfast, A great word from Christine Caine and Chic-Fil-a. Then it was into weekend service mode as Christine Caine spoke at all the weekend services. She is a very gifted communicator as a follower of Christ. It was a great message, plus free Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers for everyone….If you have not had some hot chicken strips at 9Am you don’t know what your missing. check out some pics I snapped from the Go-Go gadget phone:
All in all a great weekend: Now it is on to VBS Winbourne style: come help us out on Tuesday-Thursday from 6-8PM you will not want to miss this!!!!

We had a call out at the women’s prison this morning and had a call out at Hunt this afternoon. So as I sat in line to go through the security shack to enter the prison I had a funny thought! Reggie is behind me a little ways…Reggie is very worried about the “prison searches”……I asked the guard to ” make sure Reggie got searched really well”. as Reggie pulled up he is asked to move into an empty lane and then they asked him to get out of his car and they searched it….then my girl pulls out the rubber gloves….. HAHAHAHA Reggie will never admit it, but he was worried… I tried to get a good pic but here is all I got

I have a question, it is not a right or wrong answer but an opinion: Here is the deal…We all know drugs are real, they are tearing up families, our cities and our churches….one thing the federal government did to combat the drug problem was to stop benefits for drug users or dealers….here is how it works out: If you are convicted in Louisiana of a drug felony you forfeit your “right” to receive food stamps, w.i.c. or welfare monies for 1 year. Now I am in favor of doing what we need to do to get rid of drugs, BUT I also think this has hurt the children of these moms and dad and grandparents….they get food from somewhere….i just don’t want them getting it from stealing my car or TV. This may hurt more than it helps???? what do you think? I do know one thing:
